The drivers of GM and Cadillac have spent 10 million miles with their hands in their towers, because General Motors presented its super cruise driver contributions system in 2017. On Wednesday, the company unveiled its new generation handsfree system – The one that GM says “will eventually drive a hands-free conduct in 95% of all the driving scenarios” – Dubbed, Ultra Cross.
This defines ultra cruise apart from similar systems, such as Ford’s Bluecuise, is that Ultra is designed to operate virtually anywhere in the United States and Canada. At launch, the system should work on 2 million kilometers of North American roads – which includes streets from highways, street streets and rural areas and paved rural roads – and will eventually grow to encompass about 3.4 million kilometers of asphalt.
If you have just purchased a Super Cruise compatible vehicle (or consider buying one of the 22 GM models available by 2023), do not worry, that’s not going anywhere. GM plans to continue to offer a super cruise for its more traditional vehicles such as climbing, CT4 / CT5, Silverado and Sierra while Ultra Cruise will be reserved for the company’s premium offers. GM did not specify which vehicle will be the first to obtain it, although the company noted that Select 2023 Cadillacs will be at the head of the line.
Built Atop GM’s recently announced Ultifi (again, rhymes with a “multiply” computer system) and take advantage of Myriad optical cameras, radar and lidar sensors, Ultra Cruise will support automatic track changes and at The demand, on the left and right of the turns, to obey the traffic signals, to avoid obstacles and even park themselves in residential aisles. Additional improvements and improvements to the system will be delivered to vehicles via OTA updates. To avoid Tesla style wrecks, GM wear the super cruise driver’s camera system on the new system.
