The local government is still excited for the Amazon court business even though it is an uncertain economy and the practice of Amazon itself. According to The Financial Times, the Economic Supervisory of the good work has first determined that Amazon has so far received around $ 650 million in local and state tax incentives in 2021 to build the next day and the same day delivery operations. It was a record for the company, and approached $ 750 million Amazon received to build the second headquarters.
The biggest incentive is $ 322 million, a reduction in a 12-year-old property tax delayed in Markham, Illinois, was attended by almost $ 151 million, a 15-year tax exemption package at Monroe County, New York. Good work first said this might be careful for estimates because some agreements involve taxes and tax grants that were not disclosed.
Payments occur despite economic and uncertain complaints about the working conditions of Amazon, including simple payments, close monitoring and high levels of injury. Officials can attract more work to their area, but they will not always be a high-quality job that grows the economy. It is also unclear whether there are benefits of clean work – FT cites the study of the Institute of Economic Policy which shows that the Amazon warehouse attracts workers from other companies rather than expanding the workforce as a whole.
Amazon has confirmed incentives through the creation of overall employment and economic investment. In a statement, the company said it created more than 400,000 jobs in 2020 in addition to an investment of $ 150 billion. It adds that it often takes incentives for any company that settles to a certain location, not just Amazon.
Even if there is an increase in work as a whole, the question is whether Amazon must accept tax incentives in the first place. The company produced more profits in the first year of Pandemi than done in the previous three years, sweeping $ 26.9 billion. The company does not really need tax damage to survive, and money can be used to improve community and working conditions.
