Google hasn’t fully given up on RSS. Earlier this year, he began testing the follow button on Chrome on Android, which allows users to get updates from the website on the new tab page. To this day, this feature is available at the Build Stable Browser, so all Android users can try it.
If you run Chrome 94 or pre-stable version, you might have seen the follow button on the menu. If not, as the Director of Chrome Engineering Adrienne Porter feels writing on Twitter, you can turn on features manually. Go to Chrome: // flag, search for “web feed” and activate settings. Although the follow button is only available on Android for now, feeling suggesting it will come to iOS next year.
This feature will not have the same utility level as a dedicated RSS reader, of course. Maybe it didn’t redeem the terrible decision to kill Google Reader years ago, but it could be a practical way to stay on top of updates from your favorite websites.
